DJI Takes Off into Smart Homes with First Robotic Vacuum Line

SHENZHEN – August 7, 2025 — DJI, the Shenzhen based giant and the global leader in drone technology, has officially entered the smart home space with the launch of their DJI robotic vacuum ROMO series, their first robotic vacuum cleaner series. This move signals a bold transition from aerial innovation to ground-level intelligence with the ROMO series.

Unveiled on Wednesday, the ROMO series combines sweeping and mopping functions. The DJI robotic vacuum ROMO series is now available online and in stores across China. Prices range from 4,699 yuan (US$655) to 6,799 yuan, positioning the ROMO as a premium smart home device.

From Skies to Living Rooms

“ROMO represents DJI’s first strategic shift from aerial intelligence to home cleaning,” said Zhang Xiaonan, a spokesperson for DJI.

While robotic vacuums operate in a vastly different environment than drones, DJI is leveraging its signature technologies—such as environmental sensing, intelligent navigation, and precision path-planning—in the ROMO series. The ROMO series aims to tackle long-standing challenges in the floor-cleaning market. This marks a significant step in the evolution of the DJI robotic vacuum ROMO series.

“The core principle remains the same: using smart machines to serve people more intelligently,” Zhang added.

Backed by Drone DNA

DJI’s extensive R&D in drone tech gives it a competitive advantage in a market that’s still maturing. ROMO’s sensors and mapping capabilities, originally designed for drones flying in complex environments, are now adapted for its robotic counterpart. This adaptation highlights the innovation in the DJI robotic vacuum ROMO series as they navigate under sofas and around coffee tables.

Though specific launch dates have not been announced, DJI confirmed plans to roll out the ROMO series to international markets later this year, further expanding the reach of the DJI robotic vacuum ROMO series.

Years in the Making

The ROMO project began quietly in late 2023, when DJI updated its business scope to include smart robotics. They filed for the ROMO trademark, solidifying their commitment to the series. By May 2024, the brand was officially registered, covering product categories like robotic vacuums and steam cleaners. This diligent process culminated in the unveiling of the DJI robotic vacuum ROMO series.

Market Ready for Disruption

Despite steady growth, the robot vacuum market still has room to evolve. According to research firm IDC, global shipments of robotic vacuums reached 20.6 million units in 2024. This marked an 11.2% year-on-year increase. Total sales rose nearly 20%, hitting US$9.31 billion. Average prices climbed to US$452 as consumers increasingly opt for high-end models.

China remains a key battleground, with local brands like Roborock, Ecovacs, Dreame, and Xiaomi dominating the top five spots by shipment volume. However, household penetration of robot vacuums in China is still under 10%, showing room for innovation and adoption with introductions like the DJI robotic vacuum ROMO series.
