Hong Kong to Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with First-Ever Drone Show and Expanded Dragon Dance

Hong Kong is set to celebrate this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival with a groundbreaking drone show and an expanded traditional dragon dance, aiming to boost tourism and offer a fresh take on the city’s festive traditions.

The city’s first seasonal drone show will illuminate Wan Chai’s waterfront on September 17, featuring thousands of drones adorned with Mid-Autumn motifs such as mooncakes and rabbits. The display will also include lanterns and a fire dragon, although viewers will need to be in prime waterfront locations to enjoy the full spectacle, as it will not be visible from Kowloon.

In addition to the drone show, the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance will take place from September 16 to 18. This year’s performance will feature an extended route and live broadcasts from Victoria Park, aiming to reach a broader audience. The dragon, made from burning incense sticks, will travel from Wun Sha Street to Tung Lo Wan Road. The event will also showcase a performance by 100 children with a dragon constructed from 10,000 LED lights.

A Tourism Board spokesman highlighted that this year’s events blend modernity with tradition, offering an upgraded experience compared to previous years.
